Service: Full Truckload (FTL) intercity only | Body type: Open body / flatbed | Coverage: 110+ cities across India
Closed container trucks are the right choice for most intercity B2B freight. But there is a category of goods where the closed body is the wrong call — long steel sections, construction materials being crane-loaded at the destination, prefabricated structural components, and bulk agricultural inputs that need side or top loading. For these consignments, an open body flatbed truck is not a compromise; it is the practical choice.
TruckGuru operates open body truck bookings for FTL intercity freight across India. Every booking is full truckload — your consignment travels alone from pickup to drop, no co-loading. The rate confirmed at booking is the rate on your invoice.
Check what an open body truck costs on your route: freight calculator. Or call 72020 45678 with your load dimensions and weight.
Key point: Open body trucks on TruckGuru cover intercity FTL bookings only. Local within-city transport, household goods, automobile transport, and part-load freight are not offered here.
Most intercity B2B freight moves in closed containers because they protect cargo from weather, dust, and pilferage. Open body flatbed trucks make more sense in specific situations:
| Situation | Right Choice |
|---|---|
| Cargo fits standard dimensions and is weather-sensitive | Closed container truck |
| Cargo is longer than 32ft or irregularly shaped | Open body truck |
| Destination requires crane or forklift side-loading | Open body truck |
| Steel sections, pipes, or structural beams | Open body truck |
| Bulk agricultural produce in gunny bags or loose | Open body truck |
| Electronics, pharma, textiles, FMCG | Closed container truck |
| Construction materials — TMT bars, precast slabs | Open body truck |
For a full comparison of enclosed truck options by load capacity, see the truck size guide. For enclosed container bookings, see transportation services.
Open body flatbed trucks are the standard vehicle for goods that cannot go in a closed container due to dimensions, loading method, or handling requirements. Common cargo types on TruckGuru's open body fleet:
Steel and structural materials — TMT bars, angle sections, H-beams, MS flats, and long steel sections that exceed the length of a closed container body; flat-deck flatbed transport is the only practical option for these consignments
Construction materials — precast concrete elements, prefabricated panels, reinforcement cages, and oversized building components
Industrial machinery and equipment — heavy machinery that requires crane loading from the side or above, or that exceeds closed body height limits
PVC and HDPE pipes — long-length industrial piping for water, gas, and drainage projects that cannot be loaded through a closed truck door
Agricultural produce in bulk — grain bags, cotton bales, and similar bulk agricultural inputs that are loaded by forklift or tractor and need full access
Granite and stone slabs — quarried stone and granite blocks for construction and fabrication, typically crane-loaded
Scaffolding and structural accessories — modular scaffolding sets, formwork, and construction site equipment moving between rental depots and project sites across India
Commercial and industrial goods only. Automobile transport (cars, bikes, tractors), household goods, and over-dimensional cargo (ODC) requiring special permits are not handled through standard open body bookings. Call 72020 45678 for ODC requirements.
Open body truck freight rates depend on route distance, truck size, and load weight. Working benchmarks:
| Truck Type | Load Capacity | Approx. Rate per km |
|---|---|---|
| Open body 14 ft truck | Up to 3.5 tonnes | Rs. 18–28 per km |
| Open body 20 ft truck | Up to 7 tonnes | Rs. 28–38 per km |
| Open body 32 ft flatbed | Up to 15 tonnes | Rs. 40–60 per km |
These rates shift with diesel prices, seasonal demand, and booking lead time. Rates for open body trucks may run slightly higher than enclosed container trucks on the same route due to lower return load availability. Use the freight calculator for a live route-specific estimate, or call 72020 45678 with your load dimensions for an accurate quote.
Side and top loading without restriction
Closed containers have a fixed door opening that limits how cargo enters the vehicle. Steel beams, concrete panels, and long pipes physically cannot fit through a container door. Open body trucks allow crane loading from any angle — side, top, or end — which is often the only practical option for construction and industrial sites.
Faster turnaround at the delivery point
At construction sites and industrial yards where forklifts and cranes are standard equipment, open body trucks can be unloaded in minutes. There is no unpacking, no door clearance requirement, and no restriction on access angle. For businesses running tight delivery schedules to active project sites, that speed difference matters.
No height restriction on cargo
Closed containers have a fixed internal height — typically 6 to 8 ft depending on the variant. Machinery, fabricated structures, and bulk agricultural loads often exceed this. Open body trucks carry the load on a flat deck with no height ceiling, which is the practical solution for tall or irregular cargo.
Visual inspection during transit
Drivers and logistics personnel can check tie-downs, load shift, and cargo condition at any point during transit without unloading. For steel and construction material shipments where load security needs to be verified after rough road sections, that capability matters.
Go to TruckGuru.co.in or open the mobile app
Enter pickup city and destination
Select open body truck as your vehicle type
Add cargo details — dimensions, weight, and loading method (crane, forklift, manual) Loading method affects the truck preparation required — crane-loaded steel needs stanchions and chains, while forklift-loaded pallets need floor anchoring. Mentioning this at booking ensures the right equipment is on the truck at pickup.
Review the freight rate for that specific route
Confirm the booking and receive driver name, vehicle number, and contact details
Track the truck live via GPS through the TruckGuru mobile app from dispatch to delivery
For oversized loads, unusual dimensions, or cargo requiring special tie-down equipment, call 72020 45678 before booking. Some loads need a site assessment before a truck can be assigned.
Construction and infrastructure — TMT bars, precast elements, and site equipment moving to project locations across India
Steel and metals — manufacturers and service centres dispatching long sections and structural steel to fabrication buyers
Agricultural inputs — bulk seeds, fertiliser bags, and agri equipment moving from distributors to farm-level buyers
Stone and quarrying — granite blocks, stone slabs, and quarried material moving to processing units and construction buyers
Industrial project logistics — heavy machinery and equipment moving between manufacturing units and installation sites
Pipeline and infrastructure projects — long-length piping and ducting for water, gas, and industrial pipeline projects
What is the cost per km for open body truck transport?
Rates depend on truck size, route distance, and load weight. Open body 14 ft truck starts from approximately Rs. 18–28 per km. For a specific quote on your route and load, use the freight calculator or call 72020 45678.
What sizes of open body trucks are available?
TruckGuru's open body fleet covers 14 ft trucks (up to 3.5 tonnes), 20 ft trucks (up to 7 tonnes), and 32 ft flatbeds (up to 15 tonnes). Call 72020 45678 to confirm which size is available for your specific route and load requirements.
Is open body truck transport right for machinery and industrial equipment?
Yes, for machinery that requires crane or side loading and that exceeds the height or length limits of a closed container. Standard machinery that fits in a 32ft container and does not require special loading is usually better served by a closed container for weather protection. Call 72020 45678 with your equipment dimensions and loading requirements before booking.
Do open body trucks have GPS tracking?
Yes. GPS tracking is live on every dispatched open body booking through the TruckGuru mobile app on Android or iOS. You also receive the driver's direct contact at booking confirmation.
What types of businesses use open body truck transport?
Construction companies, steel distributors, granite quarries, agricultural input suppliers, and industrial project logistics teams are the primary users. Any B2B business moving goods that require crane loading, exceed standard container dimensions, or need flat-deck flatbed transport for bulk agricultural produce.
Are automobile transport and ODC loads handled?
Standard open body bookings do not cover car/bike transport or over-dimensional cargo (ODC) loads that require special route permits and escort vehicles. Call 72020 45678 to discuss ODC requirements — these are handled on a case-by-case basis.
Are toll charges included in the rate?
No. Toll charges are paid separately by the shipper during transit. The base rate covers the truck, driver, and fuel. Call 72020 45678 for a toll estimate on your specific route.
For enclosed container bookings covering FMCG, pharma, textiles, and electronics, see transportation services. For truck size comparison across all vehicle types, see the truck size guide. For city-specific freight services and pickup zone coverage, see truck booking online.

“We ship auto components from our Pune plant to distributors in eight states. Earlier every dispatch meant three or four calls to brokers just to get a rate. Now we check the fare online, confirm the truck, and track it on GPS till delivery. Our team saves close to two hours on every booking.”
“Our textile unit in Surat moves fifteen to twenty truckloads a month to retailers across South India. TruckGuru gave us one dashboard to book, one number to call, and the GST invoice reaches us the same day. Rates are competitive with no surprise charges at delivery, and that consistency matters when you ship every week.”
“We run a packaging materials unit in Ahmedabad and dispatch to factories across Maharashtra and Rajasthan. What sold us on TruckGuru was the rate transparency. The price we saw online was the price we paid, with no broker markup and nothing added at the weighbridge. Fourteen months in and we have not had a single billing dispute.”
“I handle procurement for a pharma distributor in Hyderabad and our cargo needs careful handling. TruckGuru gives us a coordinator who checks that every truck is clean and covered before loading. The digital LR and POD reach my inbox before the driver leaves the drop point, which saves us a lot during audits.”

FTL means the entire truck carries only your goods. It picks up from your location and goes directly to the destination, no stops to consolidate other shipments, no detours. This is the right choice when you have enough volume to fill, or mostly fill, a truck, or when transit time matters.
Yes. Every truck on our platform carries GPS. Once your shipment moves, you can see its exact location from the app, no need to call the driver every few hours. You can also share the tracking link with your buyer or warehouse team so they know when to expect the delivery and can plan unloading accordingly.
Yes. Select your dispatch date when placing the booking and we will arrange the truck for that day. Advance booking helps during peak seasons, October through December, when festival demand and year-end dispatches tighten truck availability.
Yes. If you need to collect goods from more than one location or deliver to multiple destinations in a single trip, mention the stops when placing your booking. Our team will plan the route and confirm the fare covering all points before dispatch.
You can cancel before vehicle and driver details are shared, no charge applies. Once we assign a truck and share the details, the booking amount is non-refundable because the driver has already committed time and fuel.
Our truck fare covers transportation only. Loading, unloading, and packing are arranged separately at your end. If you need help finding labour at a specific location, reach out to our team, we can usually connect you with someone in the area who handles it regularly.
Payment is split into three parts: Booking Amount at booking confirmation, 90% at loading once the truck reaches your pickup location, and the remaining Balance at delivery before unloading begins. We accept NEFT, IMPS, UPI (PhonePe, GPay), and major debit and credit cards. No cash payments are accepted.
Yes. Toll charges are included in the quoted freight rate on all intercity routes. You will not receive a separate toll bill after delivery. The rate confirmed at booking covers the full point-to-point movement.
We transport commercial and industrial goods including machinery, raw materials, FMCG products, textiles, auto parts, building materials, electronics, and agricultural produce. We do not transport household belongings for relocation, hazardous materials requiring special permits, or any restricted goods under Indian transport regulations.
A GST-compliant invoice is generated and sent to your registered email once the consignment is delivered. The Lorry Receipt (LR) is shared at the time of dispatch. Proof of Delivery (POD) is sent digitally after unloading is complete. If your accounts team needs a specific format or a consolidated monthly statement for multiple shipments, write to cs@truckguru.co.in.
The first 2 hours after the truck arrives at your location are free. After that, waiting charges range from Rs.1,000 to Rs.5,000 per day depending on the vehicle type. Keep your goods and paperwork, including GST invoice, e-Way Bill, and packing list, ready before the truck arrives to avoid delays.
GST on goods transport applies under the Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) at 5%. This means the shipper is responsible for filing and paying the GST on the transport service, not TruckGuru. Our invoices are GST-compliant and include all the details your accounts team needs for filing.
The consignor or consignee must generate Part A and Part B of the e-Way Bill before goods move. This is mandatory under GST rules for consignments valued above Rs.50,000. TruckGuru does not generate the e-Way Bill on your behalf, but our team can guide you through the process if needed.
Report any damage at the time of delivery to our team at +91-7202045678 with photographs taken before unloading. We investigate each claim on a case-by-case basis. We strongly recommend that shippers arrange their own transit insurance for high-value consignments, as TruckGuru's liability is limited to the terms agreed at the time of booking.
No. TruckGuru provides full truckload (FTL) intercity goods transport only. We do not handle parcels, courier shipments, bike transport, car transport, household shifting, or within-city local deliveries. If you need these services, we recommend contacting a specialist provider in your city.
Call +91-7202045678 or email cs@truckguru.co.in. Our customer support team is available Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and Sunday 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. For booking queries, you can also use the website or the TruckGuru app on the Play Store. TruckGuru does not share your contact details with any outside agencies.
Start with the weight and dimensions of your goods, not the truck size. A 2-ton textile shipment from Surat to Mumbai fits comfortably in an Eicher 14FT (3.5T capacity, Rs.31-35/km). Picking the wrong truck size is the most common reason shippers overpay on freight.
Get your rate confirmed before the truck is dispatched. On TruckGuru, the price you see at booking is the price you pay. The split is simple: Booking Amount at booking confirmation, 90% at loading, Balance due before unloading. If a platform or broker revises the rate at the loading dock, that is a red flag.
Check whether the transporter provides live GPS tracking and digital documentation including LR, invoice, and POD. Chasing a driver by phone for location updates wastes hours every trip. On busy corridors like Ahmedabad-Mumbai or Delhi-Jaipur, a single delayed update can throw off your warehouse unloading schedule.
Book 2-3 days ahead when possible. Same-day availability is common on most routes, but during October-December peak season, trucks on high-demand corridors fill up fast. Advance booking also gives you better vehicle options for goods that need closed-body or containerised transport.
