Truck sizes usually create the biggest confusion for businesses. Are you facing the same issue?
With TruckGuru, choosing the right truck becomes easier. We offer a huge range of commercial truck sizes in India, all available for easy online booking. Be it transporting industrial cargo, raw material, large machinery or eCommerce deliveries, choosing the right truck size in India can minimize costs and support safe and efficient delivery.
Selecting the appropriate logistics truck size doesn’t just impact your transport efficiency, but it also directly affects your budget. If the truck is too big or too small, it may not serve your purpose. Overloading a truck can result in penalties and damage to your goods, whereas under-utilising one means wasted space and higher per-unit costs. That’s why it is important to hire the best truck size for transporting your shipment.
We offer trucks in various truck categories, each tailored to specific load types and distance requirements. Explore the most widely used truck sizes in India below:

Common Applications:
Transportation of construction materials (bricks, sand, cement), industrial machinery, metal products, mining, chemicals, and long-distance heavy cargo transportation.
Confused about which truck can handle your cargo load? Get clarity by learning about truck load capacity in India and match your shipment with the right truck.
Here’s a quick guide to truckload capacity in India across categories:
Why pay for a big truck when a smaller one will do? LCVs are fuel-efficient vehicles that easily move through city streets and tight spaces.
Examples: Tata Ace, Mahindra Bolero Pickup, Ashok Leyland Dost
Best for: Short-distance delivery, local courier, small distributors, and eCommerce deliveries.
These trucks are great for carrying medium loads of cargo like machine parts, packed goods, or heavy retail items. They’re a smart choice for growing businesses that need more space without choosing a very heavy truck size.
Examples: Tata 1109, Ashok Leyland Ecomet, Tata 407, Mahindra Furio 7
Best for: Regional transport, warehousing movements, textiles, electronics, auto parts, chemicals, and building materials.
Is your business moving heavy loads over long distances? HCVs provide maximum capacity for heavy goods transportation across states. Its truck size and capacity provide the most cost-effective solution for large shipments.
Examples: Tata 1618, Mahindra Blazo, Ashok Leyland 2518
Best for: Manufacturers, wholesalers, and large distribution companies that deal in long-haul, heavy cargo and containerised freight.
When booking a truck, consider the following:
Trucks in India are classified by Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) into three broad categories: Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) up to 7.5Ton, Medium Commercial Vehicles (MCVs) from 7.5T to 12T, and Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCVs) above 12Ton. For practical FTL freight booking, the more useful classification is by body length and load capacity -- which determines what cargo fits and at what rate.
The Tata Ace carries up to 1,250 kg (up to 1.25T). This is the maximum payload -- not a recommended average. For consignments between 1.25T and 1.5T, the Bada Dost or Mahindra Pickup carries the load at the same per-km rate. Misquoted figures of "750 kg" or "500-1000 kg" that appear on some platforms are outdated or refer to older variants.
A single axle 32FT container typically carries 7-8 tonnes of cargo. A multi-axle 32FT container carries 16T or 18T depending on configuration. The physical body dimensions are the same -- it is the axle count and rated GVW that determine the legal load limit. Multi-axle containers carry more weight but cost more per trip due to higher fuel and toll charges.
TruckGuru rates by category (intercity FTL, per-km only): Tata Ace / Bada Dost / Mahindra Pickup Rs.26-29/km. Eicher 14FT Rs.31-35/km. Eicher 17FT Rs.34-37/km. Eicher 19FT Rs.37-41/km. 20FT Container Rs.41-45/km. 32FT Container (7/8T) Rs.55-58/km. 32FT Container (16T) Rs.78-85/km. 32FT Container (18T) Rs.85-91/km. Trip cost = distance x per-km rate. Use the freight calculator for a route-specific figure.
Not always. A 14FT Eicher at Rs.31-35/km carries 3.5T, while a Tata Ace at Rs.26-29/km carries only 1.25T. If your load is 2.5T, the 14FT Eicher is the correct truck and its per-tonne cost is actually lower. Oversizing wastes money. Undersizing creates checkpost compliance issues. The right truck size is the one that safely carries your verified cargo weight at the lowest per-km rate for that category.
Start with verified cargo weight -- not estimated weight. Match that weight to the smallest truck category that safely carries it: up to 1.25T (Tata Ace), up to 1.5T (Bada Dost or Mahindra Pickup), up to 3.5T (14FT Eicher), up to 5T (17FT Eicher), up to 7T (19FT Eicher), up to 6.5T (20FT Container), above 7T (32FT Container). Also check cargo volume -- some light goods fill a truck body before reaching the weight limit.
Yes. The 14FT Eicher is one of the most frequently booked trucks for intercity FTL at 3.5T capacity. It handles textile, pharma, auto components, and appliance freight across state corridors. The rate is Rs.31-35/km, making it the standard choice for mid-weight commercial consignments on routes from 200 km to 2,000+ km.
Pharmaceutical goods typically need enclosed, covered transport -- the 20FT or 32FT container is the correct choice for bulk pharma. For smaller pharma batches and samples, the 14FT Eicher (closed body) works well. FMCG bulk loads -- cases, cartons, pallets -- suit the 20FT truck (6.5T) or 32FT container depending on weight. Confirm cargo weight before selecting.
The largest truck category available on TruckGuru for intercity FTL booking is the 32FT container at 18T load capacity, running at Rs.85-91/km. Trailers, flatbeds, and oversize/ODC vehicles are outside the standard booking platform. For consignments above 18T or oversized cargo, contact TruckGuru directly for a custom quote.
E-way bill is triggered by consignment value above Rs. 50,000, not by truck size. Road permits and state-specific permits depend on cargo type (hazardous, oversize) and state rules rather than the truck body dimensions used in standard FTL categories. For standard commercial cargo in a 14FT to 32FT truck, the e-way bill and GST invoice are the primary documents required.
Five booking categories are available: Tata Ace / Bada Dost / Mahindra Pickup (up to 1.5T), Eicher 14FT (3.5T), Eicher 17FT (5T), Eicher 19FT (7T), 20FT Container (6.5T), and 32FT Container (7/8T, 16T, or 18T). All are available for intercity FTL routes above 100 km across India.
No. TruckGuru covers intercity FTL routes above 100 km only. Local city delivery, within-city transport, and last-mile distribution are not offered regardless of truck size.

“We ship auto components from our Pune plant to distributors in eight states. Earlier every dispatch meant three or four calls to brokers just to get a rate. Now we check the fare online, confirm the truck, and track it on GPS till delivery. Our team saves close to two hours on every booking.”
“Our textile unit in Surat moves fifteen to twenty truckloads a month to retailers across South India. TruckGuru gave us one dashboard to book, one number to call, and the GST invoice reaches us the same day. Rates are competitive with no surprise charges at delivery, and that consistency matters when you ship every week.”
“We run a packaging materials unit in Ahmedabad and dispatch to factories across Maharashtra and Rajasthan. What sold us on TruckGuru was the rate transparency. The price we saw online was the price we paid, with no broker markup and nothing added at the weighbridge. Fourteen months in and we have not had a single billing dispute.”
“I handle procurement for a pharma distributor in Hyderabad and our cargo needs careful handling. TruckGuru gives us a coordinator who checks that every truck is clean and covered before loading. The digital LR and POD reach my inbox before the driver leaves the drop point, which saves us a lot during audits.”

FTL means the entire truck carries only your goods. It picks up from your location and goes directly to the destination, no stops to consolidate other shipments, no detours. This is the right choice when you have enough volume to fill, or mostly fill, a truck, or when transit time matters.
Yes. Every truck on our platform carries GPS. Once your shipment moves, you can see its exact location from the app, no need to call the driver every few hours. You can also share the tracking link with your buyer or warehouse team so they know when to expect the delivery and can plan unloading accordingly.
Yes. Select your dispatch date when placing the booking and we will arrange the truck for that day. Advance booking helps during peak seasons, October through December, when festival demand and year-end dispatches tighten truck availability.
Yes. If you need to collect goods from more than one location or deliver to multiple destinations in a single trip, mention the stops when placing your booking. Our team will plan the route and confirm the fare covering all points before dispatch.
You can cancel before vehicle and driver details are shared, no charge applies. Once we assign a truck and share the details, the booking amount is non-refundable because the driver has already committed time and fuel.
Our truck fare covers transportation only. Loading, unloading, and packing are arranged separately at your end. If you need help finding labour at a specific location, reach out to our team, we can usually connect you with someone in the area who handles it regularly.
Payment is split into three parts: Booking Amount at booking confirmation, 90% at loading, Balance due before unloading begins. We accept NEFT, IMPS, UPI (PhonePe, GPay), and major debit and credit cards. No cash payments are accepted.
Yes. Toll charges are included in the quoted freight rate on all intercity routes. You will not receive a separate toll bill after delivery. The rate confirmed at booking covers the full point-to-point movement.
We transport commercial and industrial goods including machinery, raw materials, FMCG products, textiles, auto parts, building materials, electronics, and agricultural produce. We do not transport household belongings for relocation, hazardous materials requiring special permits, or any restricted goods under Indian transport regulations.
A GST-compliant invoice is generated and sent to your registered email once the consignment is delivered. The Lorry Receipt (LR) is shared at the time of dispatch. Proof of Delivery (POD) is sent digitally after unloading is complete. If your accounts team needs a specific format or a consolidated monthly statement for multiple shipments, write to cs@truckguru.co.in.
The first 2 hours after the truck arrives at your location are free. After that, waiting charges range from Rs.1,000 to Rs.5,000 per day depending on the vehicle type. Keep your goods and paperwork, including GST invoice, e-Way Bill, and packing list, ready before the truck arrives to avoid delays.
GST on goods transport applies under the Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) at 5%. This means the shipper is responsible for filing and paying the GST on the transport service, not TruckGuru. Our invoices are GST-compliant and include all the details your accounts team needs for filing.
The consignor or consignee must generate Part A and Part B of the e-Way Bill before goods move. This is mandatory under GST rules for consignments valued above Rs.50,000. TruckGuru does not generate the e-Way Bill on your behalf, but our team can guide you through the process if needed.
Report any damage at the time of delivery to our team at +91-7202045678 with photographs taken before unloading. We investigate each claim on a case-by-case basis. We strongly recommend that shippers arrange their own transit insurance for high-value consignments, as TruckGuru's liability is limited to the terms agreed at the time of booking.
No. TruckGuru provides full truckload (FTL) intercity goods transport only. We do not handle parcels, courier shipments, bike transport, car transport, household shifting, or within-city local deliveries. If you need these services, we recommend contacting a specialist provider in your city.
Call +91-7202045678 or email cs@truckguru.co.in. Our customer support team is available Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and Sunday 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. For booking queries, you can also use the website or the TruckGuru app on the Play Store. TruckGuru does not share your contact details with any outside agencies.
Start with the weight and dimensions of your goods, not the truck size. A 2-ton textile shipment from Surat to Mumbai fits comfortably in an Eicher 14FT (3.5T capacity, Rs.31-35/km). Picking the wrong truck size is the most common reason shippers overpay on freight.
Get your rate confirmed before the truck is dispatched. On TruckGuru, the price you see at booking is the price you pay. The split is simple: Booking Amount at booking confirmation, 90% at loading, Balance due before unloading. If a platform or broker revises the rate at the loading dock, that is a red flag.
Check whether the transporter provides live GPS tracking and digital documentation including LR, invoice, and POD. Chasing a driver by phone for location updates wastes hours every trip. On busy corridors like Ahmedabad-Mumbai or Delhi-Jaipur, a single delayed update can throw off your warehouse unloading schedule.
Book 2-3 days ahead when possible. Same-day availability is common on most routes, but during October-December peak season, trucks on high-demand corridors fill up fast. Advance booking also gives you better vehicle options for goods that need closed-body or containerised transport.
