Solar Panel Transport by Truck -- FTL Intercity Booking

India's solar capacity crossed 90 GW in early 2026, and most of that hardware -- panels, inverters, mounting structures -- travels by road before it reaches a rooftop or a solar farm. Moving solar panels is not the same as moving general cargo. The panels are fragile, the packaging is bulky relative to weight, and a single crack during transit can reduce a module's output permanently.

TruckGuru handles full truckload (FTL) intercity transport of solar panels and solar equipment between cities across India. This page covers how it works, which truck types fit, and what shippers need to know before booking.

Why Solar Panels Need Careful Road Transport

A standard 540W monocrystalline panel measures roughly 2,278 x 1,134 mm and weighs about 28-32 kg. That sounds light, but a full pallet of 30-36 panels weighs close to 1,000 kg and takes up significant floor space. The real risk is not weight -- it is handling. Micro-cracks from vibration, stacking pressure, or rough loading can go undetected during transit but reduce panel efficiency by 2-5% over time.

Three things matter most when moving solar panels by road: proper stacking (panels should stay upright or on edge, never flat-stacked beyond manufacturer limits), vibration dampening (rubber pads or foam between layers), and securing the load against shifting during braking or turns.

Which Truck Type Works for Solar Panels

The right truck depends on order size and distance. A standard panel weighs 28-32 kg, so capacity translates directly to an approximate panel count per vehicle:

  • Tata Ace / Bada Dost: smallest orders -- sample shipments, replacement panels, or small residential jobs of 40-53 panels.
  • Eicher 14ft (3.5T): smaller orders, typically 100-150 panels. The closed body protects against rain and dust on shorter corridors.
  • Eicher 17ft (5T) and 19ft (7T): mid-range orders of 200-350 panels. The 17ft is the most commonly booked truck type for solar panel transport on routes like Ahmedabad to Rajkot or Surat to Pune.
  • 20ft Container (6.5T): suits larger orders where weather protection is critical. The enclosed container keeps panels safe from rain during monsoon months, which matters on corridors like Mumbai to Bangalore or Chennai to Hyderabad.
  • 32ft Container (7-8T) / (16T-18T): full project loads heading to utility-scale solar farms. A 32ft container at 16-18T can carry 800-1,000 panels depending on module dimensions and packaging. Used most on long corridors like Delhi to Rajasthan or Ahmedabad to Gujarat's Kutch region where large solar parks are concentrated.

Not sure which truck fits your order? Call 72020 45678 and share the panel count, dimensions, and destination. Our team will recommend the right vehicle. You can also check estimated rates on the freight calculator.

Indicative Solar Panel Transport Rates

Freight rates are distance x per-km rate for the truck category, no base fare. Two worked examples:

  • Ahmedabad to Jaipur (~660 km), Eicher 17ft: Rs.22,440 - Rs.24,420
  • Ahmedabad to Jaipur (~660 km), 32ft Container (16T): Rs.51,480 - Rs.56,100
  • Mumbai to Pune (~155 km), Eicher 17ft: Rs.5,270 - Rs.5,735
  • Mumbai to Pune (~155 km), 32ft Container (16T): Rs.12,090 - Rs.13,175

Use the freight calculator for your exact route. The final fare is confirmed by our executive after verifying pickup location, delivery point, and load details.

How to Prepare Solar Panels for FTL Transport

The manufacturer's packaging is designed for transport, so do not repackage unless the original boxes are damaged. Beyond that:

Keep panels in their original cartons with corner protectors intact. If loose panels must be loaded, use vertical A-frame racks or lean them at 70-80 degrees with foam separators between each panel. Never stack panels flat in more than 2-3 layers -- the weight of upper panels can cause micro-cracks in the cells below.

Secure the load inside the truck using ratchet straps or cargo nets. Panels should not shift during braking. For open trucks (not recommended but sometimes necessary for last-mile delivery from a warehouse), use weather-resistant tarpaulin covers and ensure the load is strapped from at least four anchor points.

Documents You Need Before the Truck Arrives

Keep these ready at the loading point to avoid delays and waiting charges:

  • GST invoice for the shipment
  • E-Way Bill (mandatory for consignments above Rs.50,000 -- most solar panel loads will cross this threshold)
  • Packing list with panel model, quantity, and weight

If the delivery is to a different GSTIN than the buyer (common with EPC contractors shipping to project sites), ensure the Ship-To GSTIN is correctly entered on the e-Way Bill before dispatch -- this becomes a mandatory compliance point once GSTN Advisory No. 661 enforcement begins on August 1, 2026.

Where TruckGuru Moves Solar Panels

Most solar panel transport in India follows a few key patterns. Panels manufactured in Gujarat (Mundra, Surat) move to project sites in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. Panels imported through ports like Mundra, Nhava Sheva, or Chennai move inland to installation sites across multiple states.

Our strongest corridors for solar equipment transport include:

  • Ahmedabad to Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Bikaner (Rajasthan solar belt)
  • Mumbai to Pune, Nashik, and Aurangabad (Maharashtra rooftop and mid-scale projects)
  • Chennai to Hyderabad and Bangalore (South India utility and rooftop)
  • Delhi to Lucknow, Kanpur, and UP/Uttarakhand sites

Browse all available routes on the transportation services page, or check truck availability for your specific corridor by calling 72020 45678.

Pricing and Payment

Freight rates depend on truck type and route distance. The quoted fare covers truck transport only -- loading and unloading labour is not included. If you need help arranging labour at either end, our team can assist at extra cost. GST on freight is payable under the Reverse Charge Mechanism at 5%.

For businesses shipping solar panels regularly (EPC contractors, distributors, manufacturers), a credit facility is available. Write to cs@truckguru.co.in to apply.

What TruckGuru Does Not Do

We handle full truckload intercity transport only. We do not provide part loads -- if you have 10-20 panels, FTL may not be cost-effective; you would need enough volume to justify a full truck. We do not handle last-mile delivery within a city, warehousing, or installation logistics. Our job ends when the truck is unloaded at your destination.

FTL means the entire truck carries only your goods. It picks up from your location and goes directly to the destination, no stops to consolidate other shipments, no detours. This is the right choice when you have enough volume to fill, or mostly fill, a truck, or when transit time matters.

Yes. Every truck on our platform carries GPS. Once your shipment moves, you can see its exact location from the app, no need to call the driver every few hours. You can also share the tracking link with your buyer or warehouse team so they know when to expect the delivery and can plan unloading accordingly.

Yes. Select your dispatch date when placing the booking and we will arrange the truck for that day. Advance booking helps during peak seasons, October through December, when festival demand and year-end dispatches tighten truck availability.

Yes. If you need to collect goods from more than one location or deliver to multiple destinations in a single trip, mention the stops when placing your booking. Our team will plan the route and confirm the fare covering all points before dispatch.

You can cancel before vehicle and driver details are shared, no charge applies. Once we assign a truck and share the details, the booking amount is non-refundable because the driver has already committed time and fuel.

Our truck fare covers transportation only. Loading, unloading, and packing are arranged separately at your end. If you need help finding labour at a specific location, reach out to our team, we can usually connect you with someone in the area who handles it regularly.

Payment is split into three parts: Booking Amount at booking confirmation, 90% at loading once the truck reaches your pickup location, and the remaining Balance at delivery before unloading begins. We accept NEFT, IMPS, UPI (PhonePe, GPay), and major debit and credit cards. No cash payments are accepted.

Yes. Toll charges are included in the quoted freight rate on all intercity routes. You will not receive a separate toll bill after delivery. The rate confirmed at booking covers the full point-to-point movement.

We transport commercial and industrial goods including machinery, raw materials, FMCG products, textiles, auto parts, building materials, electronics, and agricultural produce. We do not transport household belongings for relocation, hazardous materials requiring special permits, or any restricted goods under Indian transport regulations.

A GST-compliant invoice is generated and sent to your registered email once the consignment is delivered. The Lorry Receipt (LR) is shared at the time of dispatch. Proof of Delivery (POD) is sent digitally after unloading is complete. If your accounts team needs a specific format or a consolidated monthly statement for multiple shipments, write to cs@truckguru.co.in.

The first 2 hours after the truck arrives at your location are free. After that, waiting charges range from Rs.1,000 to Rs.5,000 per day depending on the vehicle type. Keep your goods and paperwork, including GST invoice, e-Way Bill, and packing list, ready before the truck arrives to avoid delays.

GST on goods transport applies under the Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) at 5%. This means the shipper is responsible for filing and paying the GST on the transport service, not TruckGuru. Our invoices are GST-compliant and include all the details your accounts team needs for filing.

The consignor or consignee must generate Part A and Part B of the e-Way Bill before goods move. This is mandatory under GST rules for consignments valued above Rs.50,000. TruckGuru does not generate the e-Way Bill on your behalf, but our team can guide you through the process if needed.

Report any damage at the time of delivery to our team at +91-7202045678 with photographs taken before unloading. We investigate each claim on a case-by-case basis. We strongly recommend that shippers arrange their own transit insurance for high-value consignments, as TruckGuru's liability is limited to the terms agreed at the time of booking.

No. TruckGuru provides full truckload (FTL) intercity goods transport only. We do not handle parcels, courier shipments, bike transport, car transport, household shifting, or within-city local deliveries. If you need these services, we recommend contacting a specialist provider in your city.

Call +91-7202045678 or email cs@truckguru.co.in. Our customer support team is available Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and Sunday 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. For booking queries, you can also use the website or the TruckGuru app on the Play Store. TruckGuru does not share your contact details with any outside agencies.

Moving Goods Is Simple with TruckGuru

Tips for Booking a Truck

Start with the weight and dimensions of your goods, not the truck size. A 2-ton textile shipment from Surat to Mumbai fits comfortably in an Eicher 14FT (3.5T capacity, Rs.31-35/km). Picking the wrong truck size is the most common reason shippers overpay on freight.

Get your rate confirmed before the truck is dispatched. On TruckGuru, the price you see at booking is the price you pay. The split is simple: Booking Amount at booking confirmation, 90% at loading, Balance due before unloading. If a platform or broker revises the rate at the loading dock, that is a red flag.

Check whether the transporter provides live GPS tracking and digital documentation including LR, invoice, and POD. Chasing a driver by phone for location updates wastes hours every trip. On busy corridors like Ahmedabad-Mumbai or Delhi-Jaipur, a single delayed update can throw off your warehouse unloading schedule.

Book 2-3 days ahead when possible. Same-day availability is common on most routes, but during October-December peak season, trucks on high-demand corridors fill up fast. Advance booking also gives you better vehicle options for goods that need closed-body or containerised transport.
