What Mangalore ships
Port cargo. Edible oil, fertiliser, timber and containerised imports move inland to Bangalore, Mysore and north Karnataka.
Refinery and petrochemical products. Packed lubricants, polymers and chemicals go to Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu buyers.
Cashew. Mangalore has been a cashew processing centre for a century. Kernels in tins and cartons move to Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore traders and to export houses.

Ghat roads limit what fits. For Bangalore via Shiradi, a 19FT Eicher or 20FT container is often the practical maximum when the ghat has length limits in force. For coastal runs to Goa or Kochi, a 32FT container is fine. See the truck type guide and the truck size guide.
Truck rates
Truck freight rates are not fixed. What a load costs depends on the route, vehicle type, load capacity needed, cargo, pickup date and how many trucks are running that lane that week. Bangalore-bound trucks from Mangalore depend heavily on which ghat is open that week, and a closure that forces a longer route shows up in the trip rate.

The ghat question
Every Mangalore to Bangalore load depends on the ghats. Shiradi is the main route but has closed for months at a time for repairs and after monsoon landslides. When it shuts, trucks use Charmadi or Sampaje, both slower and with vehicle length limits. We confirm the open route before booking a large truck.
The monsoon from June to September is the heaviest on the Karnataka coast. Expect delays of a day on ghat routes during intense rain.
At the port, trucks queue for loading, especially when a large vessel is discharging. Give us the berth or godown name and your loading slot so the driver reports at the right time.
Cashew and seasonal loads
Cashew processing peaks after the raw nut arrivals from March to June. Kernel dispatches to Mumbai and Delhi follow, and trucks from Mangalore get busier then. Arecanut trading picks up after the winter harvest. Book a day or two ahead in those windows.

For port pickups, tell us whether the cargo is in a port godown or a private CFS. The gate procedures differ, and a driver sent to the wrong gate at Panambur can lose several hours.
Cashew factories usually load in the afternoon after the day's grading and packing. If you have a fixed dispatch time, share it so we place the truck on time rather than early.
Loads coming into Mangalore
The city also receives a lot by road. Steel, cement and machinery come in for port and refinery projects. FMCG and consumer goods come from Bangalore warehouses to supply the coastal districts. Raw cashew nuts from other states arrive for processing.
Because inbound trucks look for a return load, outbound availability from Mangalore towards Bangalore and Mysore is usually steady outside the monsoon months. During a Shiradi closure, fewer trucks make the trip in either direction. If you have a Bangalore dispatch in July or August, tell us a week ahead so we can check the ghat status and line up a truck of the right length before your loading day.
