Most booking calls start with pickup and drop. From Manali, ours start with the product. The estate lives off the refinery and the petrochemical and fertiliser plants around it, so a large share of small outbound lots are chemicals: solvents, lubricants, resins, additives, acids for water treatment. Some of these are ordinary cargo for a tempo. Some are classed as hazardous and need a vehicle and driver with the right permits and equipment. We would rather sort that out on the callback than have a tempo turned back at the gate or stopped on the highway.
Our tempo service in Manali Industrial Estate covers intercity trips of over 100 km. Deliveries inside Chennai we do not take.
What we ask on a Manali chemical booking
- Product name and whether it carries a hazard class. The material safety data sheet from your supplier answers this in one line.
- Packing: sealed drums, carboys, bags or IBCs, and how many.
- Total weight including packing. A 200-litre drum of lubricant is close to 190 kg, so five of them already take a tempo near its limit.
- Whether the receiver's site has any entry rules for chemical vehicles.
For classed hazardous goods, we tell you on the callback whether we can place a suitable vehicle on that date. If we cannot, we say so. Non-hazardous lots such as lubricants in sealed drums, polymer granules in bags or packed additives move like any other cargo.
One more rule we hold firmly: no leaking or damaged containers. If a drum sweats at the lid, the driver will refuse it, and he is right to.
Weight adds up fast in drums
An Ace / Dost / Pickup carries 750 kg - 1,100 kg; a closed-body Bada Dost up to 1.5 ton. With drums, that is four to six at most. Bagged granules go further by count but fill the deck quickly. When a lot passes about a tonne, we move it to a 14FT Eicher (3.5 ton), and for full drum loads to a 19FT open truck with 7 ton capacity. The truck size page has deck sizes.

The first part of every trip takes the most patience. Manali roads are shared with tankers and container trailers heading for Ennore, and the stretch to the Chennai outer ring or the Madhavaram side can take an hour at the wrong time. Early morning pickups help more here than in most parts of Chennai.
Rates for a tempo from Manali
Truck freight rates are not fixed. What a load costs depends on the route, vehicle type, load capacity needed, cargo, pickup date and how many trucks are running that lane that week. Cargo matters more in Manali than elsewhere: a hazardous-class lot needs a different vehicle and is quoted differently from sealed lubricant drums.

Paperwork and handover
Book on the website or the TruckGuru app; the team calls back within 30 minutes in working hours (Mon-Sat 9:30 AM - 6:30 PM, Sun 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM). Send the invoice, the e-way bill if the goods are worth more than 50,000 rupees, and the safety data sheet with the driver. Loading and unloading labour and transit insurance are arranged by you. A digital Lorry Receipt is issued at loading, GPS tracking runs to delivery, and a GST invoice follows.
Questions from Manali units
Can you carry hazardous chemicals in a tempo?
Tell us the product and hazard class first. Classed hazardous goods need a suitably permitted vehicle and driver, and we confirm on the callback whether we can place one. We will not load them on an ordinary tempo.
How many 200-litre drums fit?
Usually four to six, depending on the product's weight. An Ace / Dost / Pickup carries 750 kg - 1,100 kg, the closed body up to 1.5 ton.
We have 12 drums for Ranipet. What vehicle?
A 14FT Eicher with 3.5 ton capacity, not two tempos. Share the drum weight and we confirm.
Will the driver take a drum that is slightly leaking?
No. Damaged or leaking containers are refused at loading. Please check them before the vehicle arrives.
Do I need to send the MSDS?
For chemicals, yes. Keep a copy with the driver along with the invoice.
Can you take a lot from Manali to Ambattur?
No. We only book intercity trips over 100 km.
Who loads the drums?
You arrange loading and unloading labour. Drums should be loaded upright and secured; the driver will help tie them down.
Is the vehicle only for my load?
Yes. One vehicle per consignment, which also means no mixing with incompatible cargo.
What are the payment terms?
Payment is split into three parts: Booking Amount at booking confirmation, 90% at loading once the truck reaches the pickup location, and the remaining Balance at delivery before unloading begins. Accepted: NEFT, IMPS, UPI (PhonePe, GPay), and major debit and credit cards. No cash payments accepted.
Can an employee book a tempo for personal goods?
Our trucks mostly carry business loads. For a one-off household move to another city, we can supply the truck and driver. Packing, loading and unloading are arranged by you.
Is the rate fixed?
No. Rates are not fixed; they move with the product, lane, date and vehicle availability. The rate confirmed at booking includes toll.
