In Mumbai, the smaller vehicle is often the one that gets in

Weight is only half the reason people pick a tempo in this city. Larger goods vehicles face daytime entry limits across much of the island city, and many pickup points simply do not have room for an Eicher to stand. A Masjid Bunder dry-fruit trader, an electrical dealer in Lohar Chawl or a fabric wholesaler behind Mangaldas Market can get an Ace-class tempo to the door, or close to it, when a 19FT truck would have to wait at the edge of the area until night. For under a tonne, that settles it.

We do not run deliveries inside Mumbai. If the drop is in Thane, Vasai or Kalyan, it is under 100 km and outside what we book.

Where Mumbai's small loads come from

The city splits into three freight zones, and the cargo changes with each:

• South and central markets: dry fruits and spices from Masjid Bunder, electricals from Lohar Chawl, fabric from Kalbadevi and Mangaldas Market, leather goods and recycled plastic granules from Dharavi
• Western suburbs: pharma packs, printed cartons and engineering parts from Andheri MIDC and Marol, garments from Goregaon, small machine shops in the Charkop estate at Kandivali
• Eastern suburbs: chemicals and industrial spares along LBS Marg in Kurla and Vikhroli, and paint, hardware and appliance distributors in Bhandup and Mulund

Much of this goes to dealers, not end users, so the receiver is usually a shop or godown in a smaller town that opens at 10 AM. Plan the loading time back from that.

Three exits, seven common lanes

Gujarat loads leave by the Western Express Highway and the Ghodbunder side. Nashik and the north-east leave on the Eastern Express Highway through Thane. Pune, Kolhapur and Goa go out over the Vashi bridge and down the Sion-Panvel highway.

These are upper figures, not promises. July is the month to plan around. A morning pickup in Kurla, Sion or Andheri can lose hours to waterlogging after a heavy night of rain, so in the monsoon we prefer an evening loading and an overnight run, which also gets the tempo past the Western Express Highway traffic.

When the tempo is too small

If the load passes about 1.1 ton, or the cartons will not fit a body roughly 7 feet long, switch to a 14FT Eicher (3.5 ton). A godown clearing a full lot for Ahmedabad is better off in a 19FT Eicher or a container. Compare bodies on the truck type page, and for bigger Mumbai loads use hire truck in Mumbai. Tempo rates from Mumbai

Truck freight rates are not fixed. What a load costs depends on the route, vehicle type, load capacity needed, cargo, pickup date and how many trucks are running that lane that week. Out of Mumbai, the Pune and Surat lanes have tempos most days; Goa gets tight in the weeks before Christmas and Ganesh Chaturthi pulls drivers off the road across Maharashtra.

What happens after you book

Book on the website or through online truck booking with pickup, drop, weight and date. We call back within 30 minutes in working hours (Mon-Sat 9:30 AM - 6:30 PM, Sun 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM) to fix the vehicle and loading time. The tempo is yours alone for the trip. You get a digital Lorry Receipt at loading, GPS tracking until delivery and a GST invoice after delivery.

Loading and unloading labour and transit insurance are arranged by you. For goods worth more than Rs.50,000, the consignor or consignee generates the e-way bill.

Mumbai shippers usually ask

Can the tempo come to Masjid Bunder in the afternoon?

Often yes. An Ace-class tempo can reach most market lanes where a bigger truck cannot during the day. Tell us the exact gate or building on the callback so the driver knows where to stand.

Do you do local deliveries within Mumbai?

No. We only book intercity trips of more than 100 km. Andheri to Vashi or Mumbai to Thane is too short for us.

Pune by evening, is that possible?

Pune is about 150 km, so same day is possible if the tempo loads by late morning. It depends on the loading time and on traffic at the Vashi bridge.

How much can I put in one tempo?

A Tata Ace or Dost takes up to 1,100 kg. A Bada Dost takes up to 1.5 ton. Above that, book a 14FT Eicher.

My fabric rolls must stay dry. Is the tempo covered?

Ask for a closed-body tempo. Open ones carry a tarpaulin, which is not enough for fabric in the Mumbai monsoon.

Is the rate fixed for Mumbai to Surat?

No. Rates are not fixed. We quote each trip at booking with toll included, and the figure moves with date and vehicle availability.

Do I need an e-way bill for Mumbai to Ahmedabad?

Yes, for goods above Rs.50,000, because the trip crosses from Maharashtra into Gujarat. The consignor or consignee generates it.

Who carries the cartons down from our first-floor godown?

You arrange loading and unloading labour at both ends. The driver helps tie and cover the load.

Will my goods travel with someone else's?

No. One vehicle per consignment, straight from your pickup to your receiver.

What are the payment terms?

Payment is split into three parts: Booking Amount at booking confirmation, 90% at loading once the truck reaches the pickup location, and the remaining Balance at delivery before unloading begins. Accepted: NEFT, IMPS, UPI (PhonePe, GPay), and major debit and credit cards. No cash payments accepted.

Can I book a tempo to take my home goods to another city?

Our trucks mostly carry business loads. For a one-off household move to another city, we can supply the truck and driver. Packing, loading and unloading are arranged by you.
