Distance and how long the truck takes
The direct road runs west from Nashik through hill country and over the border near Saputara before dropping into south Gujarat towards Surat. At about 240 km the trip is in the one-day band. A truck loaded in Nashik in the morning is usually at a Surat godown by night or the following morning.
The hill sections are the slow part. Heavily loaded 32FT containers climb and descend carefully, and in the monsoon, landslips or fog on the ghat can hold traffic. Crossing the state border: documents
Since the truck leaves Maharashtra and enters Gujarat, the e-way bill must be ready for goods above Rs.50,000; the consignor or consignee generates it. Fresh produce such as onions and grapes is generally outside the e-way bill requirement, but carry the sale bill or a delivery challan. Each trip has GPS tracking from dispatch to delivery, a digital Lorry Receipt at loading and a GST invoice after delivery. You organise the labour at the mandi or factory and at the Surat end, plus any transit insurance.
