Book Tata AceThane faces north-east, and so do most of its 407 loads
Thane sits at the Mumbai end of the Mumbai-Agra highway, and for a distributor with a godown in Balkum, Kolshet or the Thane-Belapur belt, that road is the route to north Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, Indore: towns where one dealer order is often 2 tonnes of cartons, fittings or packed food. For that, a Tata 407 on rent in Thane is a sensible truck. Load capacity is about 2.5 ton. Trips inside Thane or into Mumbai are not something we offer.
A worked example
A Thane FMCG stockist sends a dealer in Jalgaon 180 cartons of packed snacks, each around 12 kg. That is about 2.2 ton, and cartons of that size stack well in a 407 body. The same order in a 14FT Eicher would leave space unused; split across two Tata Aces, it would cost more and arrive in two pieces. The 407 is the fit.
Now change the load to 60 cartons of empty PET bottles. Very light, very bulky. The 407 fills up by volume at well under a tonne, and a 14FT or 17FT Eicher becomes the better call even though the weight is low. Tell us what the load is, not just what it weighs.

Kasara ghat is the one section that decides the Nashik side. It is fine at night and slow in daytime traffic behind loaded trailers. In July and August, when fog and rain sit on the ghat, we tell shippers to expect an extra hour or two and not to promise their dealer a morning slot. For Indore, the driver rests overnight, so plan on delivery within 1 - 2 days.
Stepping up or down
Below a tonne, the tempo service with a Tata Ace or Bada Dost (750 kg - 1,100 kg) is enough. Between 2.5 and 3.5 ton, a 14FT Eicher. Tata 407 rates from Thane
Truck freight rates are not fixed. What a load costs depends on the route, vehicle type, load capacity needed, cargo, pickup date and how many trucks are running that lane that week. Before Diwali, when every distributor in Thane is pushing stock to north Maharashtra, small trucks on the Nashik and Jalgaon side get booked early; give us three or four days' notice in October.

Booking and paperwork
Enter the pickup, drop, weight and date on the website or app. We call back within 30 minutes (Mon-Sat 9:30 AM - 6:30 PM, Sun 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM) to confirm. The driver gets a digital Lorry Receipt at loading, GPS tracking runs until delivery, and a GST invoice follows. For goods over 50,000 rupees, the e-way bill is generated by the consignor or consignee. Loading, unloading and transit insurance are arranged by you.
Questions from Thane distributors
Can I get a 407 at our Balkum godown tomorrow morning?
Often yes, if you book today during working hours. Next-day availability depends on the lane; Nashik and Pune are easier than Indore.
Does the 407 stop at two dealers on the way?
No. It is one consignment and one drop. For two dealers in different towns, book two trips.
How long from Thane to Jalgaon?
About 390 km, usually within 1 day by truck. Load in the evening and it usually arrives the next morning.
Can you do Thane to Mulund or Dombivli?
No. Those are local moves. We only book trips over 100 km.
Our cartons cannot get wet. Is the 407 covered?
Most have a tarpaulin. Ask for a covered body at booking, or choose a container truck in the monsoon.
What if the load is 2.8 ton?
Book a 14FT Eicher. A 407 should not be loaded past about 2.5 ton; overloaded trucks get stopped and fined on the highway.
Do you load the cartons?
No. Loading and unloading labour is arranged by the customer.
Is there a fixed rate for Thane to Nashik?
No. Rates are not fixed and move with the date and truck supply. You get the trip price with toll included when you book.
What are the payment terms?
Payment is split into three parts: Booking Amount at booking confirmation, 90% at loading once the truck reaches the pickup location, and the remaining Balance at delivery before unloading begins. Accepted: NEFT, IMPS, UPI (PhonePe, GPay), and major debit and credit cards. No cash payments accepted.
Can my dealer track the truck too?
Yes. Share the tracking with the dealer so they know when to have unloading staff ready.
Do you give a GST invoice?
Yes, after delivery, along with the digital Lorry Receipt issued at loading.
