Planning a 3-4 day trip
A lane this long behaves differently from a 400 km run. The driver covers a fixed stretch each day and rests at night, so the arrival date is predictable, but a delay at loading pushes everything back by a full day rather than a few hours. Load early, have the paperwork ready before the truck arrives, and let the receiving store at Bokaro know the expected day once we share the truck's GPS position.
Our suggestion: for Bokaro, book 3-4 days before the loading date. Trucks going that far east are fewer than on the Delhi or Mumbai lanes, and a little lead time gets you the body type you actually want.
Which way does the truck go?
There are two broad options. The first heads south to the Surat side and then east on NH53 through Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, continuing through Odisha via Rourkela and on to Ranchi before Bokaro. The second goes north-east through Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and reaches Jharkhand on NH19 past Varanasi. The driver picks based on the season and road conditions; either way the truck passes through four or five states.
That makes the e-way bill important. It is needed for goods above Rs.50,000 and is generated by the consignor or consignee. Its validity is linked to distance, and on a 1,690 km trip you should check the validity covers the full transit. If the truck is held up and the bill runs out, it has to be extended before the truck moves on.
Monsoon on the eastern stretch
From July to September, the Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand sections get heavy rain. Roads stay open, but progress is slower. Send anything that cannot get wet in a closed container, and if it has to go open, insist on double tarpaulin. Electrical panels and motors that arrive wet are a common cause of damage claims on east-bound lanes.
